today was the last of the snow that drove almost all of britain into a winter vacation. i remember listening to or watching the news for suspended classes in the philippines whenever there was even a hint of heavy rain. kids, snow is a lot more effective than rain. more picturesque, too.

snow isn't so awesome when it's melting and on the road, though. it becomes a murky eyesore.

my dad, sister and i set out to clear the snow from our portion (the length of our lot) of the sidewalk today. my uncle in canada had told my dad that it was social courtesy to do so - and in canada people could sue you if they slip and fall on your portion of the sidewalk. no one else we could see on our street did it, but i thought the little rectangular patch of black was quite nice among all the white. in the process an elderly couple passed by and was delighted to see bare sidewalk instead of snow. they said several thankyous to my dad.

i almost lost my phone today. the phone that had my roaming sim card. and i was floored. i dressed up again to go out, and found it under a branchy bush in the front garden. thankfully it wasn't buried in snow. knowing me, i expected this phone to go through a lot. but being abandoned in the snow wasn't one of them.
