011 : 1.11
this afternoon was spent in the cozy home of a kind soul my father met in church: nina. she had fallen down the altar steps yesterday and today suffered a swollen ankle, but she didn't wish to postpone her invitation to tea. she had her son come over and help her with her ankle, and then take the cake she baked out of the tin.
my sister and i weren't supposed to go at first because we were bound by school work. but ten minutes after my parents left the house, my dad called and said he'd be picking us up to go there. "she's prepared a lot of food," he said. "and even baked cake."
i wasn't so keen at first because undone schoolwork hung low over my anxious mind. but when i stepped into the house and was met with such quaintness, any undone schoolwork shifted from view as i put my eye to the viewfinder.
this is just one of the many walls that are filled with photographs and paintings, all of which (together with each teacup, and a teapot, and practically everything else in her house) are incredibly significant and have a story tucked lovingly in nina's heart. she is in her 80's and yet told each story with such vivid detail. she is in the process of writing a book of her story, upon insistence of her children.
