modroc / mod rock / plaster bandage. i believe i am indebted to this invention a great deal, i didn't think i would be so successful in our 3D Art project until i realized how well this was turning out for my final piece.

since modroc is firstly a kind of bandage, it is extremely versatile and will wrap the plaster around absolutely anything. this object in the photo is actually a dictionary that i'm turning into part of a sculpture. because modroc sets fairly quickly after having been dipped in water, it's easy to shape objects: some pages of this dictionary have been bent in the fashion of a turned page. i didn't know it would be so easy to do so.

it's true that one can get better working with a certain material given enough time with it. the workshops i had done working with modroc were the ones i liked the least, yet here i am using rolls and rolls of it for my final piece.

i have been taking photos to document the progress of the sculpture, and will put them up when i have the time. i am excited to see how this piece will turn out. :)
